WORKING TOGETHER:
Update on Negotiations

10th June 2009

On Friday 5th June 2009, the University was notified that the NTEU intends to take further industrial action. The University is suprised by this move given that the University and the NTEU had recently agreed to return to the bargaining table (see 2nd June 2009 Update). The parties had not had an opportunity to meet before the NTEU organised this current round of industrial action.

The NTEU has proposed partial work bans commencing 12th June 2009 and a four-hour work stoppage on Monday, 15th June 2009. You are reminded that by law, the University cannot pay staff for any time spent engaged in industrial action (see 15th May 2009 Update).

Consistent with the University's position not to bargain under the threat of industrial action, negotiations have been put on hold. The University will return to the bargaining table when the NTEU lifts the current threat of industrial action, or when the period of protected industrial action has passed (30th June 2009).

For further information, please see the All Staff Email from the Vice-Principal (Human Resources) dated 10th June 2009.
