Occupational Health Service (OHS)

The Occupational Health Service can be contacted on 9035 5397, and is located a short walk from the Parkville campus in Cardigan Street, Carlton.

The objective of the University of Melbourne Occupational Health Service (OHS) team is to provide important health information to Parkville and non-Parkville campus staff and Managers of the University of Melbourne, particularly in relation to health monitoring / screening. The OHS unit aims to carry out the services at minimal cost, while fulfilling occupational health and safety obligations in accordance to the relevant legislative requirements.

The University of Melbourne employs an Occupational Health Nurse to attend to the needs of University staff. All OHS records are kept strictly confidential.

All new staff are required to complete a Health & Hazard Assessment Questionnaire (.pdf) before starting work with the University. Risk assessments and other forms to be conducted by supervisors and managers are located within the Environment Health and Safety Manual.

Vaccinations

OHS provide a range of vaccinations in response to risks identified within the work environment.

All staff travelling on university business are required to assess the risks of their travel destination and, if appropriate, undertake all necessary travel vaccinations. For more information please visit Policy UOM0113 in the University Policy Library.

Every year an extensive flu vaccination campaign is run by the Occupational Health Service and all departments of the University are targeted. They are offered a vaccination for all staff at a competitive rate and in the convenience of their own department at a time negotiated with the nurse.

Staff Wellbeing Program

Visit the University of Melbourne Staff Wellbeing Program website to learn about a range of wellbeing related activities available in and around the University. This information and these activities are designed to assist you to optimise your physical, psychological and spiritual dimensions of wellbeing. From the website you can check out the list of current and upcoming events, find information and resources on a range of wellbeing related topics, take a wellbeing test, follow links to other sites on a variety of wellbeing topics, and listen to downloadable audio on meditation and relaxation.

This program is coordinated by the Counselling Service within the Department of Wellbeing Services. For further information about this program, contact Wellbeing Services through the information on their website.
