How do I advertise a vacant position?
All requests for advertising are submitted using our e-Recruitment system, PageUp, which is accessed via Themis.
A job requisition is created and sent electronically to the nominated Level 2 (and Level 3 if applicable) delegation for approval. Please contact your nominated Department Administrator to create the job requisition on your behalf. A position description and the Health and Hazard Questionairre need to be forwarded to your Department Administrator to be attached to the job requisition.
The Department Administrator Quick Reference Guide is available on the HR website if you have access to 'New Job' in PageUp and wish to create the requisition yourself.
Where can I advertise?
Human Resources regularly receives information (including special offers) on advertising position vacancies through Recruitment agencies, websites and various publications. These may be more cost effective for you to utilise.
If your department is interested in exploring different advertising media, please contact the Advertising Officer in Human Resources who will provide you with the relevant information.
Please note: recruitment advertising must remain centralised through Human Resources and should your department choose to advertise on a recruitment website, Human Resources can manage this process via normal University advertising processes.
Are there any advertising cut offs?
Print Media
For the following print media, requisitions must be approved online by the Department/Faculty by 12 noon Monday:
- The Age - publication on Saturday
- The Australian - publication on following Wednesday
It is important to note that due to our advertising agency's requirements in relation to setting the print advertisement departments are unable to withdraw an advertisement once it has been submitted to Human Resources. Departments should therefore be sure that the advertisement will proceed prior to submission.
Web
There is no deadline for positions to be advertised only on the web. Once approved by the Department/Faculty, Human Resources will confirm policy compliance. If no amendments are required, the request will be processed by Human Resources and will appear on the University's webpage within two (2) working days.
What does it mean if I am listed in an advertisement as the contact person?
This means that potential applicants will contact you regarding any queries they have concerning the position. This may involve specifics of the role, salary information, employment conditions, through to general questions regarding the University or information on your department.
Print Advertising
The components of a Print Advertisement
The University crest and the creative visual elements are images designed to give University advertising a strong sense of consistency and visibility. In the case of joint appointments, other logos can be incorporated into the design.
Potential applicants will be directed to the University Careers webpage for further information and a copy of the position description. The Careers site also contains a Job Search function to view all advertised positions.
How much does print advertising cost?
Advertising rates vary according to how much text you wish to include in the advertisement.
Academic Staff vacancies
As part of a commitment to create a strong brand for the University, a prominent composite advertisement will appear each week in the Higher Education section of The Age and The Australian.
The aim of composite advertising is to provide a coordinated approach to recruitment advertising and as a consequence:
- Promote the University as an employer of choice
- Create greater awareness of the University as a recruiter
- Position the University as a leader in the education sector
The individual advertisements that appear within the composite will be a set size. The larger type will be restricted to senior positions such as Deans, Professorial appointments. The smaller type will be standard for all other academic positions.
Professional Staff vacancies
These advertisements will appear as stand alone listings under one of The Age's 27 industry specific categories.
See the attached for The Age's categories and an idea of costing.
