Workforce Planning
The purpose of Workforce Planning is to plan the human resource requirements of the department in line with its future strategic direction. This requires a department to anticipate its future staffing levels and consider the skills that might be required to achieve objectives.
Workforce planning is a dynamic process, involving frequent modifications of direction in response to changing economic and University conditions.
Workforce Review
A workforce review could be triggered when a vacancy occurs. It involves consideration of:
- the strategic and operational plans of the University and the Department;
- projected budget forecasts;
- retirement, resignation or other career plans of existing staff;
- the Department's current succession plans.
Succession Planning
Positive staff development initiatives within departments and the wider University are designed to ensure that there is a core of qualified staff able to undertake new duties, in the Department or University wide. Succession Planning ensures Departments have staff to undertake roles should a position become vacant and to provide opportunities for further development of staff.
